A culinary voyage at W15 Hanthana - let us give you a taste of paradise…

Awaken to the sounds of birds chirping outside your bedroom window and ring for your butler. He will appear with ‘bed tea’ – in the manner of all tea planters, we invite you to begin your day with a freshly brewed cup of world-renowned Ceylon tea. Discuss your day’s menu with the chef and allow him to bring you your choice of dishes featuring the freshest of seasonal produce to your table.

A curated menu just for you….

Here at W15 Hanthana, we believe that a good day follows a good breakfast. And we have all you need on offer. Indulge in the delight of an individual breadbasket, creamy butter and handcrafted specialty jams under your own cloche, accompanied by a hearty English breakfast or a traditional Sri Lankan one, featuring string hoppers (delicate fairy-like cakes of steamed rice flour noodles), flavoursome fish curry, spicy coconut sambol and mellow potato gravy. At mid-morning, perhaps a refreshing platter of tropical fruit after a ramble through the sprawling gardens. Or maybe a tall glass of Pimms, garnished with strawberries, orange and mint.

Lunch time brings our seasonal best into the dining room – or wherever you wish to dine, really. A typically Sri Lankan lunch consists of red/white rice accompanied by a delightful array of curries that capture the essence of Ceylonese cuisine. The aromas will tingle your taste buds... the creamy richness of coconut milk, the heady scent of cinnamon, the fiery sultriness of chilli powder, the mellow warmth of turmeric, the sharp freshness of curry leaves, the piquant tartness of lime. It is no wonder that Sri Lankan food has been named a world #foodtrend to follow for 2019.

At tea-time, that quintessentially British institution replicated admirably by the tea planters of Sri Lanka, the chefs at plantation bungalows truly outdo themselves. And W15 Hanthana is no exception. An English high tea or a picnic on the lawn can be arranged, whatever suits your fancy. Think piping hot sausage rolls, elegant finger sandwiches of cucumber and cream cheese or egg mayonnaise and cress, home-baked scones and a delightful selection of cakes, from Victoria Sponge to Battenberg.

It's always gin o’clock in the tropics so perhaps a smooth Hendricks over tonic and ice will act as an appetizer before a sumptuous dinner. Dinner, served whenever you want, can be a Western affair or something local to explore your palate. Salmon, lamb, steak served with perfectly matched wines or maybe a Sri Lankan Jaffna-style dinner. Pittu (ground rice layered with coconut and steamed in cylinders) served with mutton varuval, tender goat meat in caramelized onions, garlic, ginger and other spices, complemented by a fried eggplant dish prepared in the traditional Tamil way. Desserts can be as English as Bread & Butter Pudding or as Sri Lankan as watalappan, a dish oozing with treacly jaggery, scented with cardamom and cloves and topped with crunchy cashews.

End the day on a smooth night-cap in the lounge and choose from our extensive cigar box before you retire to your room for a night of indulgent sleep. Wonderfully healthy and vegan options are also always available.
